Kidd-less Nets Prevail in OT Against Bulls

Nets 110, Chicago 102

East Rutherford, NJ, Feb. 20 — Lost in all the commotion about the franchise-shaking blockbuster trade of Jason Kidd to the Dallas Mavericks was the simple fact that the post-Kidd era Nets notched their first victory without him. It was a handy 110-102 overtime drubbing of the Chicago Bulls.

In an all-around game highlighted by SG Vince Carter\’s standout 33 point, 9 rebound and seven assist performance, the Nets got contributions from everyone including newcomer Trenton Hassell who made himself felt on the defensive end. SF Richard Jefferson pitched in with 24 points, but it was the 25 point, 4 rebound and four assist performance of emerging PG Marcus Williams that had to delight the locals.

Marcus played with poise at the point taking over from Jason Kidd and the still injured Devin Harris. No longer worried about getting yanked for mistakes, he played through them enroute to an eye-opening performance. [Is it any wonder that Larry Bird covets Marcus?]

The Nets, in this year of the changing-of-the-guard, now head up to Indiana to take on the Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse this Friday. They get a chance to build on a modest 4-of-5 game winning streak. The game gets underway at 7:00pm EST and will be broadcast on YES Network.*
