Nets 102, Indiana 91

East Rutherford, NJ, Feb. 23 — The Nets found redemption against the Indiana Pacers tonight in the Meadowlands by rebounding from last night\’s loss at Conseco Fieldhouse for a 102-91 victory to the delight of the home crowd. Once again, the victory was a product of team effort – not merely individual heroics.

As far as heroics are concerned, however, there were more than enough to go around to make this a satisfying performance the team can draw confidence from to build on for the future. SF Richard Jefferson led all scorers with 36 (on 12-of-21 from the floor) including 17 points alone in the third quarter. Vince Carter, who put up 18 points in the first half before deferring to Richard Jefferson, pitched in with a gritty 24 points, 9 rebounds and five assists.*

It was, however, the University of Connecticut connection of Marcus Williams and Josh Boone that made a real difference tonight as they shined brightly for the Nets. Josh finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds including a key block late in the game when the Pacers threatened. Marcus put up 13 assists to go with 7 rebounds and eight points including a clutch trey late in the game to widen the lead. The pre-existing Huskies\’ chemistry between the two was really on display as Marcus assisted on three of Josh\’s field goals.

Of real note for New Jersey, Josh got his 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor including a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe that included a pair of freethrows late in the game to help seal the victory. \”Quarterback\” Marcus did a good job defensively shutting down his counterpart Travis Diener while putting up his career-high assists total – against only two turnovers – in getting everyone involved in the game.

Nenad Krstic, looking better and better with every game, chipped in 7 points, 3 rebounds and an important blocked shot in 17 minutes of action. Not to be outdone, Slovenian Boki Nachbar made some vital, savvy contributions to the winning effort in areas that needed them by finishing with 8 boards, 3 assists, four points and a lot of hustle and heart.

The Nets host Orlando on Tuesday. The game tips-off at 7:30pm EST and will be broadcast on YES Network and NBA TV.*
