The Nets lost to the Detroit Pistons tonight by 23. Final score: 118-95.

The game wasn\’t as close as the score indicated. New Jersey was playing the second game of a back-to-back home and away and those that played the night before had to be tired.

The Nets hung tough for the better part of the first quarter, though. The score was knotted at 27-all when it ended.

It was then, at the beginning of the second quarter, that athletic Reserve SF/PF Jason Maxiell, who finished with 18 points, 11 boards and three blocks to lead the Pistons past the Nets, skied for a putback of a missed Detroit shot and slammed it down. Things began to unravel for New Jersey from there.

The Pistons carved out a ten point lead by the half. After three the lead doubled to 20.

The ending was academic as Detroit outscored New Jersey in each of Q2, Q3 and Q4. When that happens, you tend to lose.

New Jersey now has a day of rest before heading out to take on the always tough Cleveland Cavaliers at Quicken Loans Arena. Game time is 7:00pm EST.
