Losing Skid Continues in DCTonight was a little different from most of the other nights this Nets season has already given us, but in the end, it wasn't by much. The Nets traveled down the Turnpike and into the Verizon Center where they faced the Wizards (10-10) in a battle of disappointing teams. The Nets started with Kidd, Carter, Jefferson, Allen, and Collins - the same lineup they've been using recently - and once again it got them into a basket for basket battle. By the middle of the first quarter, however, the Nets found themselves down by double digits...again, and looking for ways to fix their offensive and defensive shortcomings. Luckily, Boki came off the bench to provide a spark on both sides of the ball, contributing 8 points and a block and steal to help the Nets take their own double-digit lead midway through the second. The Nets used some good ball movement to secure a 59-50 lead in the third, but after that it was all Wizards, as Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison led them on a 54-30 run that sealed the game. Even the likes of Darius Songaila (11 points, 6 rebounds) and Roger Mason Jr. (9 points, 2 steals) got in on the action during the run and contributed to the Nets loss.

Jason Kidd is the franchise. From the darkness of a 26-56 campaign and years of misery he led us to the light with 2 consecutive trips to the NBA Finals and 6 straight years of postseason basketball. Now all the talk is of trading the franchise away, ending what all consider to be the high point in Nets history. Yes, he sat out Wednesday's game against the Knicks; some argue with legitimate migraines, others say he was "on strike". Either way, we should examine the ramifications of making any moves that involve the Captain.

Is RJ Playing Himself Out of NJ?Jason Kidd says he's "carrying the team right now." Vince Carter agrees, stating he's "definitely our offensive leader right now." When the two top dogs of your team say that about the third player you know something is up. We all know RJ is playing great right now, fulfilling the potential he showed the year Kidd had surgery and VC was still a Raptor. That season Jefferson averaged 22.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 4 assists a game, leading some to call him an All-Star player. This year (through 3 games though), Jefferson is averaging 26 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists a game while adding 1.3 steals and 0.7 blocks to boot. So is RJ playing so well that he may be at the center of some future trade discussions?

Salvation in PhillyA night after suffering one of their worst losses in recent memory, the Nets traveled down the Turnpike and into the Wachovia Center to face the 76ers for their home debut. I was lucky enough to not only be at the game, but to also witness the complete turnaround of Kidd and Carter. A night after they combined for 8 points on 3 of 11 shooting, the dynamic duo led the Nets to a hard-fought victory over a division rival. Along with RJ, who keeps contributing and stepping up when needed (22 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists), Kidd and Carter combined for 34 points (9/24 shooting still not great), 20 rebounds, and 15 assists.

Tonight's game at the IZOD Center against division foes the Raptors was challenging for even the most loyal of Nets fans to watch, especially the stretch in the beginning of the second half that saw the starters allow an 18-2 run that broke the game wide open and ensured a blowout home loss in the season's second game.
